The Scientific Piano Teacher(SPT) shares insightful resources of piano teaching and learning. It was founded by Fanny, Po Sim Head, in 2020. In 2019, when she began her doctorate studies, she discovered the world of pedagogy. She was inspired to learn a more holistic and methodical approach to teaching.
Agnieszka Lasko

Author/Writer of First Class Piano
Agnieszka Lasko is a pianist, composer, educator, and author. Her trilingual piano method book with elements of improvisation – written in Polish, English and German – 'First Class Piano' (published by Euterpe) has received acclaim from piano pedagogues and is gaining worldwide recognition. Described as 'Excellent' in the Polish academic journal of the Polish Chamber Musicians' Association, it was also 'Warmly recommended' by the UK Magazine Piano Professional EPTA as a ‘Very good alternative to what’s offered by America and the UK’.
Agnieszka completed her studies with professor Cezary Sanecki at the Grażyna and Kiejstut Bacewicz Music Academy in Łódź (Poland). With a deep interest in playing ensemble music, in 2019 she participated alongside Elżbieta Tyszecka in the world premiere recording of Aleksander Tansman's Piano Four Hands Music (Acte Préalable).
In high demand as a piano pedagogy specialist, Agnieszka Lasko lectures on original methods for teaching children at the early stages of their piano education. Among her many presentations she was featured at the National Academic and Artistic Conference ‘Partnership in Music’ at the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw, Poland, at the 10th and 11th World Piano Conference in Novi Sad, Serbia where she taught Special WPC Master Classes, at the Hands-On Research Symposium – Hands-On Piano - at the University of Aveiro, Portugal, at the Kansas Music Teachers Association Virtual State Conference.
Agnieszka is the co-founder, the managing director, and the adjudicator of the MusicAlive 1st International Piano Competition organized in cooperation with the World Piano Teachers Association Poland, Institute of Music in Cieszyn, the University of Silesia in Katowice. She was also invited as an adjudicator for the Art in Experience International Online Music Competition in North Macedonia.
Constantly working on piano compositions for children, she continues her innovative approach to improvisation. Her latest publication 'Little Stories' (published by Euterpe) has received a favorable review from Piano Journal - the European Piano Teachers Association official magazine: ‘It is not often that I rave about new music for young pianists but this particular volume of 16 character pieces is a sheer delight. The publication was also praised by Andrew Eales of British blog Pianodao as a ‘Natural winner’ and a ‘Truly essential addition to the childrens’ pedagogic literature’.
Agnieszka joined the Scientific Piano Teacher in 2021. She particularly wants to share her passion for less-known piano works, and provide her professional advice towards teaching and learning the piece.
Yi Chang

A prize winner in numerous national and international competitions, Taiwanese pianist Yi Chang is the winner of the 2023 IPPA Conero International Piano Competition and the 2022 International Young Artist Piano Competition, where he also received the Grand Chinese Prize. He was also the first prize winner of the 2020 Charleston International Music Competition and received second place at the 2022 Memphis International Piano Competition. Chang was a semifinalist for the III Teresa Carreño International Master Piano Competition in 2023. He has been featured in various recital series as guest artist, including the 2022 Washington International Piano Festival at Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C.
As an active performer, Chang has concertized in various venues including Steinway Hall, Carnegie Hall, Alice Tully Hall and more. He has worked with and received high praise from renown artists, including Richard Goode, Christian Tetzlaff, Leonidas Kavakos, and many other well-established musicians. Previously, Chang was a pupil of Alvin Chow at Oberlin Conservatory and Pavlina Dokovska at Mannes School of Music. Chang recently received his DMA degree from the University of Kansas, where he studied with Dr. Scott McBride Smith, KU Music Cordelia Brown Murphy Professor of Piano Pedagogy. Chang graduated with honors and was the sole recipient of the Carl and Frances Haven Preyer Award for outstanding piano graduates. Chang is an avid participant in numerous conferences and was recently selected as the 2023 Clara Wells Fellow of the American Matthay Association. His co-presentation New Sounds in Chinese Piano Music: An Exciting Direction in Multi-Culturalism was featured in the 2022 Music Teacher National Association GP3 conference and the 2023 Music Teachers National Association National Conference; a summary was published in the 2022 MTNA November e-Journal. Chang was also a member of the KU MTNA Chapter and participated in the group presentation A New Approach to Practice: Fresh Ideas to Motivate Your Students at the 2022 Kansas Music Teachers Association Conference. Outside of music, Chang enjoys playing basketball and exploring various cuisine.
